About This Game

Brutal TD, BTD, or Brutal Tower Defense is a minimalist retro-styled tower defense game. Unlike most other tower defense games, Brutal TD has you in complete control of your tower. You can choose what enemies to fire at, which enemies you prioritize, and more. You can do different builds going into the game or approach certain levels in different ways. Unlike other tower games, most waves have semi-random spawn times and locations. Each level of Brutal TD gets progressively more challenging and has different enemy types and wave sizes. Most levels have a boss at the end of the level. Bosses get increasingly difficult and range from giant uber blocks to planets, giant asteroids, and more.

Brutal TD uses CRT shader effects that will scale to 99.9% of screens. BTD is built from the ground up to help it look and feel like an old-school retro game from the 80s but with all the comforts of a modern TD game.

Each level has unique chip/synth tunes composed for that level to amp up the retro feel. If you like the music in the trailer, you will love the music in the game.

A mouse and keyboard are recommended to play, but the game does have full controller support and native support for the Steam Deck (docked or undocked). Controller support includes optional tilt-to-fire controls and shoulder button quick-action macros.

Brutal TD is balanced to be a difficult challenge, but rewarding the more you play. Most levels feature random enemy spawn points for replay value and to keep you from getting too comfortable on each replay. BTD is easy to learn, but difficult to master.

BTD features an optional Eyecandy mode to go from a cool retro look to a bright neon-enhanced look with extra crt and back-lighting effects for all objects on the screen.
