e20 System events at Gen Con 2011

As in the past few years, GMSarli Games will be at Gen Con 2011 (Aug 4th – 7th in Indianapolis), and we’re currently on track to release the e20 System Core Rulebook at the convention. Be sure to drop by our booth in the exhibit hall to pick up your copy!

If you’re attending, Gen Con event registration opens today at 12 pm Eastern. GMSarli Games is running some e20 System events and we’d love for you to join us!

First, there’s our seminar, “What’s New in the e20 System?”

Find out the latest news about the e20 System and upcoming projects from Gary M. Sarli. Other patrons and members of the design and development team for the e20 System are invited to join the panel as well.

SEM1124159: Thu 8/4, 6-7 pm, Marriott: Indiana Ballroom D

Cost: Free to attend

Be sure to drop by to learn how you can be a part of our next patronage projects. Once the e20 System Core Rulebook is out, I’d like to publish an average of four expansions every year, and this is a chance to find out what’s in the pipeline and provide some input.

Second, we have an all-new e20 System adventure, “The Graveyard of the Hollow Sky,” set in one of the campaign settings provided in the e20 System Core Rulebook:

The heroes are sent to a remote medical ship whose staff have reported unusually high mortality rates among the wounded soldiers who arrive. Is it a plague? The lingering effects of an enemy weapon? Tainted medicine? Or something more sinister?

RPG1124152: Thu 8/4, 12-4 pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 3

RPG1124160: Thu 8/4, 7-11pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 4

RPG1124154: Fri 8/5, 12-4pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 4

RPG1124162: Fri 8/5, 7-11pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 2

RPG1124155: Sat 8/6, 12-4pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 1

RPG1124164: Sat 8/6, 7-11pm, JW Marriott: 209, table 2

Cost: $4 (or two generic tickets)

This adventure is a combination of action and mystery, providing a good introduction to the game for new players and demonstrating the versatility of the e20 System in a wide variety of situations. I’m currently listed as the Gamemaster for these adventures, but I’m going to see if any of the other e20 System designers want to run any of the evening games. (Even if I’m not Gamemastering a given session, I’ll definitely drop by for at least part of the adventure to meet everyone and watch the game in action.)

In addition, I’m planning to have a “Try Before You Buy” promotion linked to this adventure: Since you have to pay Gen Con $4 to play in one of these adventures, we’ll give every player a coupon for $4 off on a purchase of the e20 System Core Rulebook at our booth in the exhibit hall during the convention. In other words, if you like the game enough to buy a copy, the coupon is just like being reimbursed for your ticket purchase.

Don’t forget: Before you can buy event tickets, you need a Gen Con badge (either a 4-day badge or a 1-day badge for the day of the event). Gen Con event registration opens in just a few hours, so don’t delay!

Last Call for e20 System Patrons

You’ve all had a chance to look at e20 Lite version 0.5, so you should have a pretty good idea where the e20 System is headed. If you’re interested in the project, now is your last chance to become a patron: After December 25th, 2010, the e20 System Project will be accepting no new patrons or upgrades for existing patrons. We’re in the home stretch, so it’s time to lock in our team’s roster.

Being a patron is the only way to participate in playtesting, contribute to its design and development, and get the exclusive hardcover edition of the e20 System Core Rulebook. Patronage includes free domestic and international shipping, and anyone who contributes design work earns an “Additional Design” credit as well as standard freelancer payment.

If this sounds like it’s something you’d like to be a part of, become a patron (or give it as a gift for a friend) today!

GMSarli Games at Gen Con

If you’re coming to Gen Con this year in Indianapolis (August 5th – 8th), be sure to stop by booth #1722 in the exhibit hall to say hi!  (We’re right across from Wizards of the Coast.)

GMSarli Games is hosting two seminars this year:

“Star Wars Saga Edition Retrospective” (SEM1013330) – Thursday 8/5, 2pm – 4pm

Location: Marriott – Indiana Ballroom B

Description: Game professionals who worked on the Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition take a look back at the product line, sharing their experiences and what they learned from their work. [Confirmed guests are Gary M. Sarli, Sterling Hershey, Christopher West, Gary Astleford, and Patrick Stutzman; Rodney Thompson and Christopher Perkins currently have a schedule conflict, but both have said that they’ll see if they can get free long enough to attend at least part of the seminar.]

“Introduction to the e20 System” (SEM1013331) – Thursday 8/5, 4pm – 6pm

Location: Marriott – Indiana Ballroom B

Description: The e20 System project is a patron-backed rebuilding of the venerable d20 games of the past decade, seeking to harness the lessons of millions of hours of gameplay. Come to learn more about the project and how to participate.

Immediately after these two seminars, I run the first instance of the “Evolved Delve,” the very first public adventure for the e20 System.  (There are a total of five slots for the game during the convention.)

“Evolved Delve” (RPG1013333) – Thursday 8/5, 6pm to 8pm

Location: Hyatt – Discovery, table 3

Game Master: Gary M. Sarli

Description: A team of spies must infiltrate an enemy installation, rescue a prisoner, and escape pursuit in this fast-paced action adventure. Join the game’s first-ever public adventure even as the core rulebook is undergoing its final stages of development.

“Evolved Delve” (RPG1013334) – Friday 8/6, 1pm to 3pm

Location: Hyatt – Discovery, table 4

“Evolved Delve” (RPG1013335) – Friday 8/6, 6pm to 8pm

Location: Hyatt – Discovery, table 2

“Evolved Delve” (RPG1013337) – Saturday 8/7, 1pm to 3pm

Location: Hyatt – Discovery, table 2

“Evolved Delve” (RPG1013338) – Saturday 8/7, 6pm to 8pm

Location: Hyatt – Discovery, table 1

Currently, all the “Evolved Delve” games are sold out, but previous experience tells us that it is not at all uncommon for someone not to show up for a scheduled game for any number of reasons; given this, I would encourage anyone who is interested in attending to bring some generic event tickets ($2 each) and swing by before the start of one of the sessions. If a slot goes unclaimed, you can take that spot at the table.  This is obviously a first-come, first-served thing, so you’ll want to be there early to have the best chance of getting a seat!

e20 System now taking new and upgraded pledges via PayPal

If you didn’t find out about the e20 System Project before our Kickstarter deadline (March 15th), if you just didn’t have enough funds to join at that time, or if you weren’t able to pledge at the level you wanted, you’re in luck!  I’ve just set up a way for new patrons to make pledges and for existing patrons to upgrade their pledge level (improving from patron to senior patron, for example).

Just go to the e20 System – Patronage page, and follow the instructions there.  If you have any difficulty, let me know and I’ll see what I can do to help.

Thanks for all your support!
