As many of you know, D&D Miniatures have gone through some substantial changes recently: Demonweb is the last set that has the traditional randomized distribution (case of 12 boosters, each containing 1 rare, 3 uncommon, and 4 common figures), and it is the last set that has D&D Miniatures Game statistics made by Wizards of the Coast. (However, WotC did license the fan-run, community-based DDM Guild to continue making such game stats, allowing the game’s tournament play to continue.)
In the upcoming sets, there are two separate products being made. The first, Player’s Handbook Heroes, consist of non-random, fully-visible sets of three miniatures meant for a particular niche. There are six different packs in the first series: Martial Heroes 1, Martial Heroes 2
, Arcane Heroes 1
, Arcane Heroes 2
, Divine Heroes 1
, and Primal Heroes 1
. Obviously, since they are already non-random, I doubt that I can find a niche for them in my encounter packs and campaign packs, but they seem like a reasonable value for you guys to buy directly.
The second product, Monster Manual: Dangerous Delves, is more like the traditional miniatures sets, but somewhat smaller and only semi-random. Each set of 40 includes 8 Large, nonrandom miniatures (these are visible in each booster pack), 16 Rares, 8 Uncommons, and 8 Commons. A booster pack includes 1 Large visible, 1 Rare, 1 Uncommon, and 2 Commons, and a factory-sealed case has 8 boosters (rather than the current 12), including 1 of each visible miniature.
Since there is a random element at play here, I can probably integrate these into future D&D encounter packs and campaign packs; however, you get only 5 miniatures in a booster pack (as opposed to the 8 you got previously), so it is a little more expensive and it will take some extra work to find a proper niche for them. One way or another, though, I am moving forward with plans to expand the variety of D&D encounter packs and campaign packs here at GMSarli Games.
