I’ve been working on a tagging system where I add descriptive keywords for each miniature, making it easier to find a miniature that fits a specific character. For example, let’s say you have a Human female scoundrel/gunslinger. A search for “Human female pistol” turns up notables such as Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter, Rebel leader, Mara Jade, Emperor’s Hand, several versions of Princess Leia, and so forth.
I tried to be flexible with the tags — Aurra Sing, for example, is Near-Human, but her miniature could pass for Human. Similarlly, some miniatures could pass for either gender, and someone wielding a blaster rifle with a collapsed stock in one hand is tagged both “rifle” and “pistol” (more of a stretch, but when wielding it in one hand it looks enough like a pistol for gameplay).
Seeing Aurra Sing, wielding a pistol and lightsaber, prompts an idea: How about having the gunslinger wield two pistols instead of one? Let’s add “twin” “dual” (which I added to all cases of wielding two weapons) to the search: “Human female pistol twin dual” turns up a shorter list of five miniatures, with three wielding a lightsaber (Aurra, Dark Jedi, and Dark Side Adept), one wielding a wrist rocket (Mira), and the Echani Handmaiden, who fits the bill perfectly with two pistols.
The system isn’t perfect yet, since the internal search engine doesn’t restrict itself to whole words. For example, to find only males, you have to search for “, male” (because “male” would also be found in “female”). Also, it doesn’t like apostrophes, so if you want to search for Twi’lek you have to type in “twi lek” to get it to work. [EDIT: Problem solved!]
Try it out! I’ll add new tags as I think of them, and feedback is welcome! A list of all current tags is after the jump.
